• This year Machel Montana and Soca were MASSIV.

Soca, the Soul of Calypso is Massiv...still. Soca singer, songwriter, and producer Machel Montana recently collaborated with Massiv for the new SOCA Massiv line. Soca reigns as the most prominent and popular music scene in Trinidad and Tobago. Though Massiv represents and embodies Los Angeles, the influence is felt worldwide. Thousands of onlookers at Carnival 2015 earlier last week saw dancers sporting the new SOCA Massiv shirts as they shook their bodies left and right to the Caribbean jams. For those who aren't familiar with Soca let us give you a little history lesson.

Soca was made popular in Trinidad and Tobago in the 70's and has only grown since its birth. It started as a new genre of music but in the 80's Soca developed into more of a style. This doesn't mark the first time Massiv and Soca have collaborated, Massiv has earlier ties with Soca as we released a SoundCloud playlist in 2013. This collaboration is a start to something greater. Being Massiv has a strong presence in Los Angeles and in Caribbeans, the SOCA Massiv line brings two separate worlds together. Similar to Nas & Damien Marley's Distant Relatives LP, SOCA Massiv takes DTLA to the Caribbeans and vice versa. Some styles are trends or fads but Soca, and Massiv, on that note are here to stay. And if you don't know now you know....
